The Problem

Lack of a unified & automated portal where job seekers and employers can make data-driven hiring decisions.

In a sector where the supply and demand ratio is extremely high, it becomes important to make sure India’s graduates focus on the skills which guarantee employability rather than just graduating from their colleges.

The Solution

TheLabs1 is a two-tier solution - focusing on multiple solutions for companies & applicants. The magic lies in how these two are interconnected to give rise to an ecosystem which promotes skill development on the applicant side, and a continuous dashboard for companies to track applicants - including their progress, LabScore 2 and more.

Branding

Being the creative lead, I took charge of creating an identity of the company which conveyed two major points:

  • Solving the confusing recruitment process
  • Helping applicants/students develop skills

Apart from the logo, I also designed a few promotional marketing material along with business cards.

UI/UX

Our mobile application was primarily designed for students, to organize and attend skill development workshops, events, and seminars in their respective communities.

Hence, keeping this in mind - the app could be divided into a few sections:

  • Events / Homepage
  • Student Profile
  • Timeline (History of student)
  • Progress (See where you stand)

Design Decisions

Our first major decision was wanting to opt for a uniform experience across both iOS & Android, which included some compromises - such as Hamburger menus in iOS. But as we kept getting user feedback, we realized our users, being in the ages of primarily 18-25 - didn’t find the user experience confusing. So we ultimately decided to keep it in the production builds.

Our first major decision was wanting to opt for a uniform experience across both iOS & Android, which included some compromises - such as Hamburger menus in iOS.

The heart of the app lies in the Events page - which is the first activity the user sees. Since the vision was for TheLabs to have student communities all over the country, the app follows a rather familiar location wise event list pattern. The top bar contains the current location and the number of results. Of course, since these are on-site seminars/workshops, the Day + Date combination has to be a star of each listing. Thus in a decreasing order of importance, one can observe the size & placement of elements for a single event listing.

Branding

The Profile page was designed to be a place where a user can see his current LabScore and top skills. I used flat rounded rectangles to maintain design consistency. Similarly, the timeline follows a newest to oldest history pattern, allowing a user to check their progress after attending more events and workshops. Check out the following visuals to get a sense of the overall design.
